Priest in Charge for the Parish of Seaton Hirst

The Bishop of Newcastle, in consultation with the Bishop of Beverley,

is seeking to appoint a

Priest in Charge for the parish of Seaton Hirst.

We are looking to appoint a priest of the Society of St Wilfrid and St Hilda for this large parish in the town of Ashington. The parish is longing for a priest who will:

  • Make deeper connections between the worshipping communities and the very large number of people who look to the priest for the occasional offices;
  • Be a visible presence within the communities of the parish, embracing local concerns and identifying partnership opportunities;
  • Build on the nascent enthusiasm for mission and evangelism in the congregations and explore ways of encouraging young people in their faith development and engagement with the church;
  • Engage with emerging plans for re-ordering and building on both church sites;
  • Work to increase the opportunities for discipleship and ministry development within the parish;
  • Continue to develop the good relationship between the parish and the local schools.

“There are opportunities on the horizon that could really make a difference to Ashington.” - Sir John Hall, Chair of Ashington Town Team

This is a Diocese committed to ‘growing church bringing hope.’
